Branches: The Human Spirit in Search of the American Dream
Published in Paperback by Authorlink Press (August, 1999)
Author: George Davis
Average review score:

This is what I've been waiting for!
I read a prepublication copy of Branches and I can't wait to read it again. It was written from the point of view of my parent's generation but there are so many people and situations I recognize in this book it may as well have been written just for me. The characters are recognizable and they represent what happened to all Americans, not just African-Americans, since the civil rights movement. I highly reccommend this book.

Brand Driven: The Route to Integrated Branding Through Great Leadership
Published in Hardcover by Kogan Page Ltd (01 April, 2003)
Authors: F. Joseph Lepla, Lynn M. Parker, and Susan V. Davis
Average review score:

Points to what you need to know
I recommend this book to anyone who is implementing a new brand strategy, or problem-solving the strategy they now have. It reminded me of what is behind successful branding efforts: a leader who makes the brand come alive. It is something I thought I knew, but didn't really "get" until I read the book. It is written in a clear, intelligent voice - not too cutesy, and very straightforward. There are a number examples of why branding did or did not work for specific companies, and how leadership impacted their success or failure. I found it extremely helpful, as it broadened my thoughts about how to use branding to its fullest extent in my own firm.

Brian Was Adopted (In Our Neighborhood Series)
Published in Hardcover by Multnomah Publishers Inc. (August, 1989)
Authors: Doris Sanford, Graci Evans, and Deena Davis
Average review score:

A must for Christian adoptees!
The format of this book provides an opportunity for adopted children to read about a fictional character, Brian, and how he feels about adoption. It is a positive perspective about some difficult challenges that adoptees face. It also provides a prayer by Brian after each of his comments about a particular issue.

This book can be a springboard for conversation, as well as a tool to help an adopted child deal with some of the challenges he/she might face. I would highly recommend it!

BRIDAL STYLE
Published in Hardcover by Hugh Lauter Levin Associates (April, 1994)
Author: Nancy Davis
Average review score:

Pictorial research
Although this book is a few years old it was an inspiration and had lots of good info in it. I found my wedding dress in it and made it from the picture. We also got the idea of a "white bar," which no one in New Orleans had ever heard of nor would offer us. Very stylish, very chic, and while I also recommend Bridal Bargains and the Diane Warner books, this book you read after those two.

Building Scientific Apparatus
Published in Paperback by Westview Press (15 July, 2002)
Authors: John Moore, Christopher Davis, Michael Coplan, and Sandra Greer
Average review score:

Building Scientific Apparatus is great for a science fair!
My son chose to enter this year's science fair with an advance project that required vacume chamber construction, optics, and the original charged particle detection systems. This book is a perfect guide towards building most any mid-level research instrument.

The Business of Fashion: Designing, Manufacturing, and Marketing
Published in Hardcover by Fairchild Pubns (April, 1997)
Authors: Leslie Davis Burns and Nancy O. Bryant
Average review score:

A very good introduction and view into the Fashion Business
I not only learned alot from reading this book but actually enjoyed the reading considering it's a text book. As someone who's trying to get back into the fashion industry after a 20 year hiatus; I feel that I have the knowledge I need to head in the direction I want to go now. I really liked how they used real companies for examples and at the end of each chapter they have an explanation of a job in the industry with comments from people in those jobs. There's lots of charts, lists of important contacts, calendars of events, etc that will be important to anyone starting a fashion business or wanting to find a job in fashion. It's worth the money if you can't afford to go to school for this.

Average review score:

When Glory is Just a Whsiper
This Chicago-Evanston, IL author has written a very powerful and thought provoking book -- giving us psychological insight into the personality dynamics behind professional athletes.

It is well written -- with considereable imagery and blatant honesty. I could not put it down!
